Aurangabad to Pune is approximately 230–235 km by road. On a normal day with reasonable traffic, you’re looking at 4 to 4.5 hours. On a Friday evening or during a long weekend? Add an hour easily — Pune traffic can chew up 30–45 minutes on its own once you’re inside the city.
There are two main routes:
Route 1: Via Ahmednagar (NH 753 / Aurangabad–Ahmednagar–Pune Highway)
This is the most-used route and generally the better of the two. The road is wide, well-maintained, and the National Highway stretch after Ahmednagar is fast. Total distance is around 235 km. Ahmednagar city is roughly the halfway mark — a natural tea or restroom break point. The road passes through Nagar and then joins the Nagar–Pune Highway, which is a good four-lane stretch for most of the way.
Route 2: Via Solapur Road (Longer, but occasional preference)
Some drivers prefer an alternate routing through Osmanabad or Solapur depending on construction or traffic conditions. This is longer (280+ km) and not usually the first choice unless there’s a specific reason. We mention it because some GPS apps route this way unexpectedly — always confirm the route with your driver before departing.

Places Worth Stopping on the Aurangabad–Pune Highway
The Aurangabad–Pune road isn’t just a transit corridor — there are a few genuinely worthwhile stops along the way, depending on how much time you have and what your group is interested in. Here are the ones we actually recommend:
Shani Shingnapur
The famous Lord Shani temple — about 75 km from Aurangabad, just a 30-min detour off the highway. If it’s a Saturday, expect devotees from across Maharashtra. Spiritual, interesting, and worth an hour if you’re not in a rush.
Ahmednagar (halfway break)
Good for chai and a leg stretch. The city is about 110 km from Aurangabad — the perfect natural midpoint. The Nagar–Pune Highway starts here, and the road significantly improves after Nagar.
Ahmednagar Fort
One of the strongest forts in medieval Deccan — and also the place where India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru wrote ‘The Discovery of India.’ History lovers will appreciate the detour.
Highway Dhabas near Bhingar
After Ahmednagar, there are some excellent highway dhabas in the Bhingar area serving piping hot Maharashtrian thalis. Your driver will know the best one — and they’re usually right. Ask them.
Lonavala / Khandala (extension)
If you’re not stopping in Pune and heading further toward Mumbai, the Lonavala bypass comes 65 km after Pune. The ghats are beautiful — if you have time, Bhushi Dam and Tiger Point are worth a stop, especially in monsoon.
Siddhivinayak Temple, Ahmednagar district
Various smaller Ganesha and Devi temples dot the highway route — your driver can point out the most significant ones based on your interest. The Marathwada region between Aurangabad and Nagar is temple-rich.

What a Good Driver Makes Different on a 235-km Trip
Four and a half hours in a car is a long time. And the driver you choose makes a bigger difference than most people realise — not just for safety, but for the entire experience of the journey.
A good Aurangabad–Pune cab driver knows the highway well enough to avoid the Nagar bypass traffic at peak times. They know exactly where to stop for a good restroom break — not some dodgy petrol station, but an actual clean highway stop. They drive at a steady, safe pace without over-braking on the highway. If there’s a grandparent in the car who needs more time at a stop, they wait without making the family feel rushed. If someone’s motion-sick on the ghat section near Pune, they pull over without being asked.
These aren’t special extras. They’re what a good driver does as a matter of course. At Singhavis Tours, this is our baseline — not our selling point. Read more about how we work and who we are.
✅ Tips for a Smooth Aurangabad to Pune Cab Journey
- Leave time for Pune traffic. If your destination is in central Pune (FC Road, Koregaon Park, Shivajinagar), assume 45–60 minutes extra during peak hours. For Hinjewadi or Wakad, the same applies. Build this buffer into your plan.
- For hospital trips or airport drops, book your cab the evening before. Last-minute bookings on short notice for long-distance routes mean less vehicle choice and more stress for everyone.
- Carry toll money as backup. Most of our cabs have FASTag, but on some old toll plazas, FASTag doesn’t work and cash is needed. ₹400–500 in change is enough.
- Let your driver know your exact drop address in Pune before departure, not just “Pune city.” Pune is large — Hinjewadi and Sinhagad Road are 40+ km apart. GPS confusion mid-journey wastes time.
- Water and snacks: The stretch between Ahmednagar and Pune has limited good food stops. Pack a water bottle at minimum. The highway dhabas near Bhingar are fine for a proper meal but not for quick snack stops.
- Night travel: The Nagar–Pune highway is safe for night travel — well-lit on the main sections. But the section from Aurangabad to Nagar has some unlit patches. If departing late, let your driver set a comfortable pace; don’t rush them.
- Return trip planning: If you’re booking a round trip, decide the return date and timing upfront. Day-of return requests for a specific vehicle type may not always be possible in peak season.
Beyond Pune: How People Extend This Trip Further
Many of our guests use the Aurangabad to Pune cab as the first leg of a larger Maharashtra trip. Here are the extensions we see most often — all easy to plan with us as a single continuous booking:
Pune → Lonavala / Khandala (65 km, 1.5 hrs from Pune)
Perfect for a quick weekend extension. The hill station is beautiful in monsoon and pleasant in winter. Bhushi Dam, Tiger Point, Karla Caves — all worth combining.
Pune → Mahabaleshwar (120 km, 2.5–3 hrs from Pune)
One of Maharashtra’s most popular hill stations. Strawberry farms, viewpoints, Venna Lake. Great for a 2-day extension after your Aurangabad cave visit.
Pune → Mumbai Airport (160 km, 3–3.5 hrs)
If you’re flying out of Mumbai, this is a natural progression — Aurangabad → Pune → Mumbai Airport. We run this complete route as a single trip regularly.
